Welcome to an awesome weekly meme:  Wishlist Wednesday!  This is a blog hop to share something that I am very excited to read…but haven’t read yet!

I cannot believe this is the last Wishlist Wednesday of the semester!  My final post for the semester is a throw-back to the picture book weeks.

Dragons Love Tacos, by Adam Rubin and illustrated by Daniel Salmieri, is all about the kinds of tacos that dragons love.  Dragons and Tacos….who could resist?

Welcome to an awesome weekly meme:  Wishlist Wednesday!  This is a blog hop to share something that I am very excited to read…but haven’t read yet!

Way back in the early weeks of the semester, I really wanted to read this book during our “Other Award” week.  The Poet Slave of Cuba:  A Biography of Juan Francisco Manzano, by Margarita Engle, was one of the Pura Belpre Award winners.  The lyric novel tells the true story of a slave who went on to become a famous poet.

My library did not have this book in its collection.  So, it is now on my Wishlist.

Welcome to an awesome weekly meme:  Wishlist Wednesday!  This is a blog hop to share something that I am very excited to read…but haven’t read yet!

It’s almost Thanksgiving.  That means in a mere 48 hours I can start getting ready for Christmas!  So, even though I won’t watch Christmas shows or listen to Christmas music until Friday, I thought I would put a Christmas book on Wishlist Wednesday.

Quomodo Invidiosulus Nomine Grinchus Christi Natalem Abrogaveri – How the Grinch Stole Christmas in Latin! is translated by Jennifer Morrish Tunberg and Terence O. Tunberg.  It’s the classic tale in a classic language.

This book has been on my wishlist for a number of years.  I love the Grinch and I love Latin.  (Spoiler…..I’m a big old nerd!)  I cannot wait until I have this book under my tree and in my hands.  If anyone wants to get me a Christmas book, this should be the one!

Wishlist Wednesday #12 – Flora & Ulysses

Welcome to an awesome weekly meme:  Wishlist Wednesday!  This is a blog hop to share something that I am very excited to read…but haven’t read yet!

Flora and Ulysses:  The Illuminated Adventures, by Kate diCammillo and

illustrated by K.G. Campbell, has been on many a classmate’s #imwayr blog!  It has been on my Amazon wishlist and To Be Read List for a while.  I’ve finally just broken down and ordered it.  I can’t wait to read it!

It begins, as the best superhero stories do, with a tragic accident that has unexpected consequences. The squirrel never saw the vacuum cleaner coming, but self-described cynic Flora Belle Buckman, who has read every issue of the comic book Terrible Things Can Happen to You!, is just the right person to step in and save him. What neither can predict is that Ulysses (the squirrel) has been born anew, with powers of strength, flight, and misspelled poetry — and that Flora will be changed too, as she discovers the possibility of hope and the promise of a capacious heart.  (Courtesy amazon.com)

This week’s book has another KidLit Connection!  In my travels through the KidLit-o-sphere I have come across some pretty amazing people to follow.  One is Pernille Ripp.  She created something called the Global Read Aloud.

“What is the Global Read Aloud?”  Well, let me tell you!

The premise is simple; we pick a book to read aloud to our students during a set 6-week period and during that time we try to make as many global connections as possible. Each teacher decides how much time they would like to dedicate and how involved they would like to be. Some people choose to connect with just one class, while others go for as many as possible. The scope and depth of the project is up to you. In the past we have used Twitter, Skype, Edmodo, our wiki, email, regular mail, Kidblog, Tackk, and any other tools we can think of to make these connections. Teachers get a community of other educators to do a global project with, hopefully inspiring them to continue these connections through the year.

So I missed this year’s reading, but I’ve seen so many fun things about the book that I have added it to my ever-growing wishlist.

It’s the story of Ally, a student who has cleverly deceived teachers at each new school.  She is hiding the fact that she cannot read.  Then she meets Mr. Daniels who sees her bright, intelligent personality.

Wishlist Wednesday #10 – Magnus Chase

One of my favorite Kid Lit authors is Rick Riordan.  I stumbled upon Percy Jackson a few years ago.  I’ve devoured all of his books.

But now…he’s back with a new series.  And this one is based on Norse mythology!

I can not wait to get my hands on Magnus Chase, but I think I might wait until he finishes the series so I don’t have one more hurry up and wait series going!

Welcome to an awesome weekly meme:  Wishlist Wednesday!  This is a blog hop to share something that I am very excited to read…but haven’t read yet!

Nine weeks and I’ve already shared 8 books that I want to read.  It is a good thing that I have such amazing classmates with diverse tastes.  Otherwise, I’d never be able to come up with all these wishes!

Okay, that’s a lie.  But we’ll all pretend that it is true.  Okay?

Artsy-Fartsy (An Aldo Zelnick Comic Novel), written by Karla Oceanak and illustrated by Kendra Spanjer, introduces us to the world of young Aldo Zelnick.  He is a boy who is not great at anything, but loves to draw.  The reviews say this comic-novel (I think both comic-funny and comic-book) is the first in a series of adventures with young Aldo.

That’s right, a series.  Each book’s title starts with the next letter of the alphabet.  Kerfuffle (#11) has just been released, but I want to start from the beginning!
